Oct. 15, 2011 Cowgirl Equestrian Holds Off Baylor, 13-10 STILLWATER, Okla. -- The Oklahoma State equestrian team defeated the Baylor Bears, 13-10, at Animal Science Arena Saturday. The Cowgirl western team took care of the Bears, 9-3, while the hunt seat fell by a 7-4 margin. "It was a very good win against a talented Big 12 team today," coach Larry Sanchez said. "Baylor has a very tough team and I'm proud of our girls for taking care of things at home." Sophomore Jenna Blumer led all western riders with a 75.5 in reining as the Pokes rolled to a 5-1 victory in the discipline. Seniors Caroline Daniels and Rachel Houchin and juniors Christy McElreath and Taylor New added head-to-head wins in reining. Katy Krshka defeated her counterpart in an exhibition ride, 67-66.Freshmen Lindsey McMullen and Katy Krshka earned their first varsity wins of their career when they defeated their Baylor counterparts on the way to a 4-2 Cowgirl win in horsemanship. Junior Marissa Dalton and sophomore Lauren Halvorson added a pair of wins in the discipline. Senior Morgan Pierce won her exhibition ride, 72-71. The hunt seat team tied the Bears in equitation on the flat, 3-3. Senior Jordan White, junior Ellie Sparks and sophomore Allison Dooman all earned head-to-head victories in the discipline. Sophomore Ali Rose scored a team-high 84 points in equitation over fences to win her head-to-head matchup, but that was all the Cowgirls could muster as they fell 4-1 to the Bears. The Cowgirls improve to 2-0 on the season an 1-0 in Big 12 play. They will be back in action when they travel to Texas for a Friday matchup with Texas A&M and Saturday rematch with Baylor November 5 and 6.
